Meet Marta Poynter - the first of our marketplace moms
Three words to describe your brand:
Modern, Sophisticated, Playful
You have so many gorgeous and unique pieces. Where do you get your inspiration?
I find a lot of my inspiration in nature, as well as contemporary design
Tell us a little bit about your process?
My process is similar to a tornado or a tsunami… I have a plethora of ideas that are constantly swirling around my head, so I simply start working, almost unconsciously, refining each piece until I am satisfied with the final product.
I have seen your home studio… is it always super organized?
No! Definitely not! You should see my studio when I am in the middle of creating a collection of pieces… It is in total disarray!
Where did you come up with the name Bright Little Island?
Bright Little Island is a metaphor for a child. I believe that all parents think of their child(ren) as the brightest, most special little entities in the universe.
I know you have fun making all your pieces but which one do you enjoy working on the most?
I would have to choose any of my pieces that are hand embroidered. I love the handmade look and feel of these pieces.
As a mom what is some of your favorite absolute must have baby item?
The Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper as well as gowns or sleep sacks were indispensible items for the first 3 or 4 months for me!
A few words of advice for new moms?
Don’t try to do too much! Even if you were superwoman before motherhood, you need to get your rest! Leave the dishes; when your baby/babies sleep, you should be too! Lack of REM sleep really catches up with you after awhile, trust me!
